Right then. That’s it from the coverage of this game. Australia Women have cruised through this game and have taken a 1-0 lead in the ODI series. India have a lot of thinking to do, they will have to be a lot better if they are to level the series. The action will continue on Friday the 24th September, 2021, when the two sides will compete in the second game of the series at 1315 local (0315 GMT). Till then, take care and goodbye!
Meg Lanning, the victorious skipper, is up for a chat. She says, it is great to get a victory, they are playing after long so she is pleased. Credits the way Brown played and also praises Darlington. Healy and Haynes were really good and she is pleased they put in a dominant performance.
Mithali Raj, the India Women skipper, is up for a chat. She says, you need a good opening partnership and that is what they could not get and a lot more is expected from the bowling department too. Adds there are few areas she needs to work on herself. States the debutants need some game time before the World Cup and against these sides, they will learn.
Darcie Brown, is the Player of the Match for her four-fer. She says, she was quite lucky to get a few wickets on the bad balls but she is pleased. Adds she was nervous and she was sweating a lot but it was good fun. Adds she was told to have fun and do what she normally does.
... Presentation time ...
Earlier in the day, after electing to bowl, the Aussies did a great job with the ball courtesy Darcie Brown and Hannah Darlington. They kept India to a score well under par and they chased it down with ease.
The Indian bowling was good to begin with but that over from Pooja Vastrakar changed the momentum completely! From there on it was all about the Aussie batters. The visitors' bowlers just had no answers to the clean hitting. However, Poonam Yadav and Jhulan Goswami did do well but the others were not upto the mark. They though just did not have enough runs on the board and the bowlers can't be blamed.
A very easy win for the Aussies! 225 was never going to be enough, they needed early wickets but got none, infact they just managed to take the one wicket. The top three of the Aussies made full use of the conditions. Healy and Haynes started off slowly as the ball was swinging but once that disappeared, they took the attack to the bowlers. In no time, they added 126 before Healy fell. Lanning then came in and continued the good work and she added another big stand with Haynes to give their side a 1-0 lead.
A dominating performance by Australia Women. They extend their unbeaten run in ODIs and make it 25 wins on the trot in the ODI format.
