That's all we have from this entertaining game. Bangladesh punched above their weight to beat England for the first time in T20Is and have taken a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series. The action now moves back to Dhaka for the final leg of England's tour. The second T20I is on 12th March (Sunday) at 2.30 pm IST (9 am GMT). Do join us in advance for the build-up. Cheers!
Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of Bangladesh, says that he can't ask more from the team. Admits they were under the pump with the ball initially but no one panicked. Tells that in this format you don't need to think too much and that helps in the performance. Wants to build the same kind of fearless atmosphere in the dressing room. States that they are looking to build a team for the next World Cup and it's a good start for them.
Najmul Hossain Shanto (51 off 30 balls) is the Player of the Match. Says that Towhid Hridoy batted really well and he himself was only looking to play proper cricketing shots. Adds that the way Bangladesh bowled was superb and it helped the batters. Praises the opening partnership provided by Litton Das and Rony Talukdar as well.
Jos Buttler, the English skipper, says that Bangladesh finished the innings very well with the ball and England were perhaps 20 short. Adds that the pitch behaved as they expected and having a few extra runs on the board would have helped them. Praises Bangladesh for the way they showed the intent with the bat. Tells that England have a different balance in the team and he is blessed with plenty of bowling options.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
England have themselves to blame for this loss. They shot themselves in the foot after losing the plot in the end overs while batting. A strong platform was set but losing Jos Buttler and Ben Duckett off consecutive deliveries punctured their charge. The visitors mustered only 30 runs in the last five overs and finished with a below-par total. Credit to the way Bangladesh bounced back. Hasan Mahmud was exceptional in the death overs and must be commended for showing his control over variations.
It was an in-between target for the home team and the way they approached the chase was very refreshing. The openers were fearless and then the pair of Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy capitalized in the middle phase. Their alliance in a way sealed the deal as the required rate dropped down below 6. There were a few nervy moments when both got dismissed in quick succession but the experience of Shakib Al Hasan came to the rescue. He kept the momentum and along with Afif Hossain finished the chase with relative ease in the end.
The Twenty20 world champions taken down! Bangladesh have done it. They have outplayed England. It's a lovely batting show from them, powered by some young and new faces. The next generation seems ready to take over for the Bangla Tigers.
