Right then that is it from the first semi-final with India advancing to the Gold medal match after defeating Bangladesh by 9 wickets. You can join us to know who the other finalists will be as the second semi-final takes place in a while at 11.30 am IST (6 am GMT) between Pakistan and Afghanistan. You can join us for the early build-up as well. Till then stay safe and have a good day.
Earlier in the day after being asked to bat first, Bangladesh were sloppy with the bat as they managed to score only 96 runs. The batters couldn't fight against the quality bowling lineup of India. Jaker Ali was the pick of the batters as he scored 24 runs while Parvez Hossain Emon was not far behind him with 23 runs. Apart from these two batters no batter stood up and took the responsibility to stand tall for the side. India bowled beautifully as they never let any batter in and picked up wickets regularly. Sai Kishore was the pick of the pack with 3 wickets while Washington Sundar took a couple and the rest chipped in with a wicket each.
With such a low total there wasn't much for the bowler to work with and that reflected in the scorecard as well. Ripon Mondol took the only wicket that fell rest all were taken to the cleaners as a result of some effortless hitting from the batters.
The run chase started with some excitement as Yashasvi Jaiswal departed for zero but it was all about some clinical hitting from skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Tilak Varma that made an easy task of this low total. The duo dismentaled the Bangladesh bowling scoring 68 for the loss of 1 wicket in the powerplay. Both the batters stayed not out as Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 40 while Tilak Varma scored 55 and saw the team home.
India are through to the Gold Medal match as the defeat Bangladesh comprehensively by 9 wickets.
