That's all from this match. Join us next for the Gulf Giants vs Desert Vipers clash on January 14th, 2024, at 2:30 pm GMT. We'll have pre-match analysis and updates starting an hour before the game. Until then, cheers!
Tom Banton IS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH. Tom is up for a chat and says they had decided for someone to bat through and it paid off for him in this game. Mentions that he was just looking to put the pressure back on the bowlers and it those that were in his zone and it worked.
Nicholas Pooran, the skipper of MI Emirates says it feels really nice to end up on the winning side and they could have won the previous game as well but they are happy with this win. Mentions that the players need a bit of time to get accustomed to the conditions at the start of the tournament but a win early will make them breathe easy. Credits that Tom Banton has been batting fantastic and everyone is impressed with the way he can play a matured inning as well.
Sikandar Raza, the skipper of Dubai Capitals says that sometimes all one can do is raise the hand and applaud the opponent and that Fazalhaq Farooqi over (17th) landed a double strike and reckons they lost track of the chase from that point. Mentions that he just love a guy from DC scoring a ton and it's a shame for the side that the ton goes in vain.
Stay tuned for presentation ...
MI Emirates posted a formidable 187 after being put in to bat. Despite losing openers Waseem and Perera early, Tom Banton and Nicholas Pooran steadied the ship with a 109-run partnership for the third wicket. Both Banton and Pooran notched half-centuries, setting the stage for a strong finish. Kieron Pollard chipped in with a good little knock of 22. Dubai Capitals bowling struggled to contain the runs, with their fielding also below par. Naib bowled well and he took three in the final over. Olly Stone claimed two wickets, while Dushmantha Chameera took one.
MI Emirates bowling unit delivered a sensational performance in the latter half of the game! Fazalhaq Farooqi and Alzarri Joseph claimed two wickets each, while Waqar Salamkheil and AM Ghazanfar chipped in with one wicket apiece.
Dubai Capitals began their chase of a hefty target with a blistering start, scoring 54 runs in the Power Play and losing only one wicket. Brandon McMullen and Shai Hope built on the momentum, adding 61 runs together. However, Hope's dismissal marked a turning point, and Dubai Capitals' innings unraveled. The double strike from Fazalhaq Farooqi in the 17th over proved to be the decisive blow, dashing Dubai Capitals' hopes. Despite Shai Hope's sensational century, his team ultimately fell short, succumbing to a 26-run defeat.
Revenge is sweet! MI Emirates emerged victorious by 26 runs, avenging their loss to Dubai Capitals from the tournament opener.
