Right then, that is all we have from the first game of this Super Friday. Next up, we have Dhaka Dominators taking on Rangpur Riders in front of their home crowd. That game will start at 6.30 pm IST (1 pm GMT). Do, join us for the build-up of that game. Cheers!
Shakib Al Hasan, the skipper of Fortune Barishal is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for this all-round performance. He says that they had a good chat after the loss in the last game and tells that it is not about winning or losing but about putting up good performances as they know how good they are. Says that the games coming forward are important as they want to finish on top 2 and talks about the depth in their side and adds that they have given opportunities to almost everyone so far. Mentions that he is happy with his personal performance and adds that he worked on his batting and he is glad that it is coming off but feels that there is still long way to go.
Shai Hope, the skipper of Khulna Tigers says that it would have no big difference even if they had batted first. Adds that it is important to do well regardless. Reckons that they gave many easing scoring opportunities and did not have any momentum going into the batting effort. Shares that it is going to be difficult but they now have to play for pride. Ends by saying that he has enjoyed his time in the Bangladesh Premier League.
Time for the Presentation.
Fortune Barishal, on the other hand, have once again showed why they are one of the best teams in the competition. They batted with lot of flavour and aggressive intent to put over 190 on the board with Iftikhar Ahmed top scoring with a fifty. Their bowlers then put up a good combined effort with all the seamers using the change of pace perfectly on this turf. Mohammad Wasim provided the early breakthrough while Khaled Ahmed broke the backbone of the chase by getting two big wickets of Andy Balbirnie and Shai Hope. Shakib Al Hasan too bowled well but it was Karim Janat, the Afghan all-rounder who finished with four wickets to his name coutesy some excellent death bowling skills. Overall, a complete performance from Fortune Barishal!
Shai Hope won the toss earlier and decided to bowl first in hope of chasing down the total in the second half. However, his bowlers failed to live up to his expectations as they leaked way too many runs putting the batters under pressure going into the chase. However, we should credit their spinners Murad and Nahidul Islam who bowled well. With the bat though they lost their talismanic opener Tamim Iqbal early and though Shai Hope kept their hopes alive for sometime with his counterattacking knock but once he departed in the 8th over, Tigers just could not force the issue. The 81-run stand between Yasir Ali and Nahidul Islam did take the game deep but honestly, they were never in the game with required rate going up right throughout the innings. Yasir Ali though played well for his 60 off 38 balls but that was not enough as Tigers have fallen well short of the target.
A comfortable victory for Fortune Barishal and with this win they have strengthen their position further in the points table. They clearly looked a better side both with the bat and ball and with this loss Khulna Tigers are out of the playoffs race.
