Earlier in the innings, Fortune Barishal posted a huge total on the scoreboard of 194 runs. Their opening pair laid a solid platform on which Shakib Al Hasan capitalised which allowed Fortune Barishal to put a wonderful total on board. Mashrafe Mortaza stood out with the ball for Sylhet Strikers with his three-fer. Eventually, Fortune Barishal suffered a defeat in their season opener.
Barishal bowling was poor and they leaked runs in aplenty. Their out fielding was also sloppy as they dropped plenty of chances in. 8 bowlers were tried out by Mehidy Hasan and all of them took a beating. Chaturanga de Silva and Karim Janat were economical and got rewarded with a wicket each as well.
Sylhet Strikers were put under pressure in the very first over as they lost Colin Ackermann through a run out, early in pursuit of 195. The young guns of Bangladesh cricket Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy batted with a lot of sense and maturity. They added 101 for the second wicket before Shanto was run-out for 48. Hirdoy got to his fifty and was dismissed in the 15th over for a well-made 55. Zakir Hasan to everyone’s surprise belted the bowlers all-around the park and made a quick 43 off 18. In the end, Mushfiqur Rahim and Thisara Perera gave the finishing touches and completed a mammoth chase in the penultimate over.
An emphatic win for Sylhet Strikers. Their second win on the trot. Their 100% win record in the campaign remains intact. Fortune Barishal would've thought they have enough runs on the board but did not prove to be enough, as the Strikers chase it down with six balls to spare.
