Right then, that will be it from this contest. We hope you enjoyed the coverage. Do join us on 17th January 2025 for Match 37 in the BBL 2024-25 as we head into the business end of the league stage. It’s the Sydney derby where the Sixers will host the Thunder at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney. That game will start at 8.15 am GMT. But as you know, you can always join early for all the build-up. Until then, take care, and cheers!
Caleb Jewell IS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH. Caleb says that the finish of the game was hard to see but he is lucky to leave things in the hands of the best finishers in the tournament, David and Wade. Mentions that he looked to take a few risks right at the top and luckily it worked well. Closes by saying Hobart is a brilliant place and the crowd supports them tremendously there so they're hoping to make it to the Final with the hosting rights.
Earlier in the game, the Brisbane Heat delivered an impressive batting display, scoring 201/6 in their innings. They started strong with Usman Khawaja making 23 runs off 9 balls but lost him early. Marnus Labuschagne anchored the innings with a superb 77 runs off 44 balls, supported by Matt Renshaw's 40. The Power Surge was pivotal, yielding 33 runs, and Tom Alsop contributed 39 off 27. Nathan Ellis was the pick of the bowlers for the Hobart Hurricanes, taking 3 wickets for 42 runs.
Spencer Johnson was the shining star for the Brisbane Heat with the ball, claiming 3 wickets while maintaining an impressive economy rate. Although the rest of the bowling unit failed to provide the desired level of support, Xavier Bartlett and Mitchell Swepson did manage to chip in with a wicket each. However, the Heat's fielding effort was a mixed bag, with some outstanding catches being negated by crucial drops. The most costly of these was the spill of Caleb Jewell, which ultimately proved to be the difference between victory and defeat as it allowed Jewell to make a significant impact on the game.
What a night of cricket at the Gabba! The Hobart Hurricanes have pulled an absolute heist! They showcased resilience by successfully chasing down a mammoth total! The innings got off to a solid start, anchored by an impressive 80-run opening partnership between Caleb Jewell and Mitchell Owen. Jewell’s aggressive batting laid a strong foundation, but the innings faced a setback with the dismissals of Owen and soon, followed by Wakim. Caleb Jewell's impressive performance continued, as he formed a key partnership with Nikhil Chaudhary after the early setbacks. Jewell scored a commendable 76 runs, but the departure of Chaudhary for a quick 39 followed by Jewell created tension in the chase. In the final overs, Wade and Doran's calmness under pressure proved vital for the Hurricanes. With the game hanging in the balance, they exhibited composure, scoring crucial 11 runs off the last over to seal the victory.
The Hobart Hurricanes have surged to the top of the Big Bash League table with this victory on the final ball of the game, riding a remarkable 7-match winning streak! Meanwhile, the Brisbane Heat's playoff hopes remain uncertain, as they continue to sit outside the coveted final spot.

SIX! WADE HAS DONE IT FOR HOBART! Attempted yorker goes wrong and it lands as a full toss on the pads, Matthew Wade gets down on a knee and sweeps this up and over the fence towards deep square for a huge six. Hobart Hurricanes defeats Brisbane Heat by 5 wickets.
1 needed off the final ball.

BYE! That's poor from Tom Alsop. He needed to keep with one glove off as Wade was always running for such a delivery. Good length on off, beats the batter. The ball goes back to the keeper and he through and misses. Interstingly, Tom Alsop has both gloves on and that just shows his inexperience under such situations.

WOAH! A ramp shot from Jake Doran and the batters take two here.

FOUR! EDGED AND GONE FOR FOUR! Hobart Hurricanes wouldn't mind such edges. On a length wide outside off, Jake Doran swings but gets an outside edge. The ball sails past the left of the keeper and wide of the short third fielder as well for a boundary behind the stumps.

Not the two he was looking for this time. On a length around middle and off, Matthew Wade gets it away towards long on and they have to settle for one.

Excellent running as Wade completes the second. Good length on off, Matthew Wade lobs this off his back foot towards mid on with the fielder set in the deep. Matthew Wade turns back, puts in a dive and completes two here.
11 needed off the final 6 balls and Xavier Bartlett will bowl the all-important over.

On a length around middle and leg, Jake Doran flicks this towards deep square and the batters run two. A risky second as a good throw towards the non-striker's end would have seen the end of Wade as well.
Jake Doran walks out next with 13 needed off 7.
OUT! THAT'S WHY PACERS ARE A RARE COMMODITY! Spencer Johnson spits some venom and darts one short and into the body of David. The batter takes his eys off this and swings through. The ball hits high on the sticker of the bat of Tim David and this lobs to the left of Mitchell Swepson at short fine leg. Swepson runs back and sideways to his left before diving and holding onto this.
