So that is it from this one-sided affair. We are done with the group stage and now, it is time for the Eliminator. Adelaide Strikers will take on Hobart Hurricanes on Friday, 21st January at 1:45 pm IST (8:15 am GMT). The buildup will begin well in advance though. Till then, Adios!
Glenn Maxwell is the Player of the Match. He says that there was no time to sink in what they achieved. Mentions that they had to straightaway go and play again. Tells that it was a tough season for them. Informs that Victoria and a few other states have been hit by the Covid cases but feels good to play some cricket at the MCG. Hopes that they have done enough to get support from their fans in the next season as well.
Melbourne Stars bowlers' did their job. They kept things tight from the start and took wickets at regular intervals. Brody Couch was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped three wickets. Overall, a good performance from Melbourne Stars and they sign off from the tournament with some records broken. All thanks to the carnage from Glenn Maxwell and well supported by his fellow partner, Marcus Stoinis.
Hobart Hurricanes did not really explode rather their batters just played out without looking at the scoreboard. To be honest, in the first instance even the Hurricanes wouldn't have fancied chasing this one. Ben McDermott was positive for them as he scored yet another half-century and continued his fine form in this season. Short and Handscomb spend some time in the middle as well. Overall, apart from the bowling of Hurricanes, it was a decent outing. A win here would have helped them climb the table but most importantly, they have still qualified for the next round and that's what matters to them.
A comprehensive win for Melbourne Stars as they end the tournament on a very positive note while Hobart Hurricanes progress further and they will try and forget the belting they had today, going into the next round.
