What an exciting tournament we have witnessed and it is Kovai who claim their second Tamil Nadu T20 League title. Their first one was shared with Chepauk in the previous season so this one will definitely mean a lot more to them. Nellai tried their best and were inches away from their maiden title but will look to come back stronger. That is all we have from our coverage of this season. There is more cricketing action around the world as West Indies take on India in the first Test match and you can switch tabs for our coverage. From here, goodbye and cheers!
Ajitesh G is the PLAYER OF THE TOURNAMENT.
Jhatavedh Subramanyan has been adjudged the Player of the Match for an outstanding bowling performance as he ended with figures of 4-0-21-4.
Earlier in the game, after Kovai opted to bat first, they were rocked early as they lost S Sujay in the second over. Sachin B departed early as well and Kovai seemed to be in some early trouble at 33 for the loss of 2 wickets. Suresh Kumar and U Mukilesh then got together and started a repair job for Kovai. Kumar found his groove early while Mukilesh played the second fiddle in the 71-run stand. Kovai did seem to lose their way when Suresh Kumar and Shahrukh Khan departed in quick succession. But, Atheeq Rahman came in and played a blinder of a knock to get his side to a daunting total. On a night when almost all bowlers were taken to the cleaners, S Mohan Prasath was Nellai's most economical bowler with a wicket to this name. Their batters were left with an uphill task but never looked close to achieving the target.
The game was tilted in Kovai's favor after their batting effort itself when they scored more than 200 and when there are runs on board in a big game is always the costliest currency. Chasing down a total of 205 it was the bowlers that broke the back of this run chase early on as the impact batter Sri Neranjan R and Ajitesh G were sent back to the hut within the second over with just 2 runs on the board. No batter chipped in and took the responsibility to take the team home resulting in Nellai losing by a massive margin Only 3 batters got into double figures and the rest were mere spectators with no partnerships of any sort building. The bowlers of Kovai were spot on with Jhatavedh Subramanyan being the pick of the lot by scalping four wickets in his 4 overs and giving away just 21 runs. He was well helped by Shahrukh Khan who took 3 wickets while others chipped in with a wicket each.
KOVAI ARE THE CHAMPIONS OF THE TAMIL NADU T20 LEAGUE, 2023! What a dominating win this has been as the table-toppers have demolished Nellai by 104 runs in this one-sided final! They were off the blocks right away and looked like a team on a mission. They gained control of the game early and never allowed the initiative to be lost throughout the match. Nellai will be proud of their effort to reach the final but have stumbled at the final hurdle and will be looking to come back stronger in the next season.
