Right then! That is it from this game! The action from Women's World Cup, 2022 continues as New Zealand Women will take on Bangladesh Women on Monday, 7th March. This clash begins at 3.30 am IST (10 pm GMT, previous night). We look forward to your company for this game and make sure you tune in early for the buildup. Until then, take care and goodbye!
Mithali Raj, the skipper of India Women, says they did won the game but there are some things they need to work on. Adds, when you lose wickets in the middle phase, there is pressure but Rana and Pooja did really well. Mentions, they have good all-rounders and that helps them to bat deep. Informs, they have a couple of days before the next game and she hopes Pooja Vastrakar recovers quickly.
Bismah Maroof, the skipper of Pakistan Women, says they should have bowled better, they were in the game for most of the time. Adds, they gave away easy runs and that's where they lost the momentum. Mentions, batting is a concern as they need to score runs and play good shots.
Pooja Vastrakar is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for her match-winning innings of 67 from just 59 balls. She is very happy to win this match and it is her first player of the match award as well. Adds, she loves to bat in tough situations and she just wanted to get to a defendable total along with Rana. Tells, the other players told the wicket was a bit slow and her focus was to cross 200 runs. Mentions, she hopes to get ready before their next match.
... THE PRESENTATION ...
India Women got off to a great start with the ball, even though they failed to make an early inroad. The pace duo of Jhulan Goswami and Meghna Singh kept things tight at the start and once spinners came into the attack, they hardly gave away any loose deliveries which resulted in Pakistan Women throwing away their wickets. Jhulan Goswami was brilliant in her second spell where she grabbed a couple of wickets but it was Rajeshwari Gayakwad who was the standout performer for India Women as she finished with figures of 10-0-31-4. All in all, it was a commanding performance from India Women and they have started their campaign on a high.
Well, nothing much to talk about the batting of Pakistan Women. The openers got off to a sedate start and their innings never really got going. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were put on the back foot. The skipper Bismah Maroof and Sidra Ameen tried their best to steady the ship but Pakistan Women weren't allowed to get back in the game at any point. The pressure kept building up and it was only a matter of time before they were bundled out.
A comprehensive win for India Women in their opening game of the tournament and Pakistan Women continue to remain winless in this format of the game against their arch-rivals, India. Chasing 245 was always going to be a tough ask and Pakistan never looked like getting over the line at any point in the game. A dominant display from Mithali Raj and her troops and they have completely outplayed their opposition in this clash.
