Right then! That is all we have from this game but we have one more game coming up. Oman will take on Scotland in the next game. Do join us for the same at 6 pm Local (2 pm GMT). See you there!
Mahmudullah, the skipper of Bangladesh, says that this was a much-needed win. Adds that there was intent from the batters and the wicket was also a good one to bat on. Praises his bowlers too and says that it was a very good show. Mentions that they are concerned about batting in the Powerplay and they need to work on that. Says that they do not have many power-hitters so they have to take calculated risks in the middle overs.
Assad Vala, the skipper of Papua New Guinea is down for a chat. He says that they got the momentum in the middle overs but credits Bangladesh by saying that they batted well in the death overs and overall they are very disappointed. Tells that their batting is a concern as they are losing lots of wickets in the Powerplay. Adds that executing the skills under pressure is important but they failed to do so. Signs off by saying that they will need to be better next time around against such quality oppositions.
Shakib Al Hasan, Player of the Match, says that anyone can beat anyone in this tournament but now they feel better as they have qualified and they would express more from now on going forward. Tells that he has been playing non-stop cricket for the past 5-6 months and hopes that he will pull of this T20 World Cup.
The batting of Papua New Guinea was a sorry show. None of the batters from their top order got going and at one point, it felt like they would not even reach 50. But Kiplin Doriga hit some big ones towards the end and scored 46 runs. Overall, they would be quite disappointed with their show.
The Bangladesh bowling was on point. Shakib Al Hasan was the star yet again with a four-fer and he was well supported by the rest. Overall, it was a complete team effort from them. First, a collective effort saw them get to 180-plus, then their bowlers rose to the occasion to give them an emphatic win which takes them to the Super 12s with some confidence in their side.
In T20 internationals, a win by 84 runs against PNG is Bangladesh's biggest margin of victory.
So as expected, quite a massive win for Bangladesh. It was never in doubt once they scored the number of runs they did but it was a very poor outing with the bat from Papua New Guinea. Yes, it was an uphill task for them but they just surrendered. None of their top 7 managed to score in double digits. The top scorer for them was Doriga who walked in at number 8. Had it not been for him, it could have been even more embarrassing for them.
In T20 World Cup, unbeaten 46 by Kiplin Doriga is the highest score by a player batting at number 8.
