Reeza Hendricks is the player of the match for his outstanding knock of 79. He is up for a quick chat and says that the wicket was challenging but a great going in the later half along with Moeen Ali helped him go big at the end. Adds that he generally thought that 150 would have been enough but the wicket got better to bat on and it was very evident in the end. Mentions that the first few games did not go as per plan and he would be looking to play even better knocks in the future.
Skipper of Paarl Royals Jos Buttler is up for a quick chat and says that these are the kind of wins that inject confidence in a side and keep them happy. Adds that the wicket was tricky and they just needed to have a positive intent in the end and the partnership between Dane Vilas and Wihan Lubbe was key to them getting over the line. Mentions that The clarity of mind and thought process have been key to them being so clinical in the tournament. Closes by saying that they are not worried about position in the table but are very satified with where they sit at the moment.
The Skipper of Joburg Super Kings Faf du Plessis is up for a quick chat and says that they did not cross the par score. Adds that the ball was skidding a bit more in the second innings and batting became easier. Adds that the tricky thing was how the pitch was and this was a game of two halves. Mentions that the pitch was gripping a bit more early on in the day and eased off to the later part of the game so the par total always arrived in our mind. Mentions that his side is not far away from a perfect performance and they were competitive in all departments today so they just need a bit of luck and a tightened fielding effort to get over the line.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
Earlier in the game the Joburg Super Kings after being asked to bat first managed to post 169 on board thanks to a remarkable innings of 79 by Reeza Hendricks. A few batters other than him did get started but did not go big and that ultimately cost the side a few runs at the end. Fabian Allen, Andile Phehlukwayo and Lungi Ngidi got a wicket each while others went wicketless for Paarl Royals.
The bowling from Joburg Super Kings was a bit hit-and-miss but they weren't lucky enough to get the edges flying to the fielders. Nandre Burger started brilliantly but went wicketless and wasn't lucky enough today. Moeen Ali topped the wicket charts with 2 wickets to his name while Lizaad Williams and Imran Tahir took a wicket each as well. The bowling in general was not that bad but the fielding let them down with a lot of extras in the field.
Chasing down a good enough total of 169 the Paarl Royals started a bit watchfully and managed 40 of the first 6 for 1 wicket. The middle phase belonged to the Joburg Super Kings as they picked up wickets in a cluster but a magnificent 4th wicket partnership between Dane Vilas and Wihan Lubbe of 95 runs was the game changer as that brought things in favor of Paarl Royals. Wihan Lubbe was tremendous as he scored 57 runs while Dane Vilas was ruthless as he breezed away to 42 off just 26 deliveries. Fabian Allen and Jos Buttler too had key contributions to the team's victory.
A brilliant game of cricket comes to an end as Paarl Royals get over the line and defeat Joburg Super Kings by 5 wickets.
