That's your lot for Super Sunday. Gujarat sealed their spot in Qualifier 1 while Rajasthan have also taken a step closer to joining them. On Monday, Punjab and Delhi will be locked in a battle for survival, starting at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). You can join us in advance for the build-up. Until then, it's goodbye and cheers!
Trent Boult is the Player of the Match for his two wickets and a 9-ball 17 with the bat. The Kiwi speedster says that it is nice to contribute to a win and it is important to get wickets in the Powerplay. Adds that his plans are very simple and he looks to pitch the ball up. Mentions that this was an important game for them and their intensity on the field was brilliant. Talking about his batting, he smiles and says that he is batting a lot higher and he was surprised to do a press conference about his batting. Further adds that it is a tough place to bowl but he is enjoying his time with the new franchise.
Sanju Samson, the captain of Rajasthan, says that they have been taking some good decisions and when they pay off, it feels good. Credits his players for trusting themselves and delivering. Shares that batting first suits their style of play and they have some quality bowlers to defend the total. On their fielding, Samson replies that they had a chat about it, and wanted to keep the energy and intensity in the field. He praises James Neesham for his outing in the field. On using his spinners at any stage of the game, Samson replies that's the bonus point of having quality spinners. Shares that the team chat has been around not complicating things, as you just have to go out there and express yourself.
Yuzvendra Chahal, the leading wicket-taker of this season, is up for a chat. The leggie says that they needed this win and they played well as a unit. Adds that he didn't want to give extra runs while bowling to Hooda and he deliberately bowled quicker. Although, he feels that he could have bowled much better in this game. When asked about his race for the leading wicket-taker with Wanindu Hasaranga, Chahal says that he is really happy for the Sri Lankan and calls him his brother, and further adds that he won't mind if he tops the list.
KL Rahul, the skipper of Lucknow, is in for a chat. He says that it was a gettable target as it was a good pitch to bat on. Adds that they were backing themselves to chase down the total but they failed to execute their plans. Tells that their batters didn't play well and they need to come back stronger. Mentions that you need to bat well when you are facing quality new-ball bowlers in the form of Trent Boult and Prasidh Krishna. Says that they won't be doing anything different in their last game against Kolkata and would be looking to execute their plans better. Adds that playing according to the situation is very important and it is all about batting well when the new ball is moving at the start.
Stayed tuned for the interviews...
Earlier, Rajasthan's choice to bat first turned out to be correct as they sped away to a brilliant start, despite losing Jos Buttler cheaply. Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal joined forces for an excellent partnership and Devdutt Padikkal was incredible with his quickfire knock. They lost the plot a bit at the backend and it appeared that they were 15-20 runs short, but eventually, their bowlers turned on the heat and defended the total efficiently.
The chase started on the wrong note for Lucknow as Trent Boult pegged them back with his double strike. It was a body blow for the chasing team when they lost KL Rahul as well, and it was tough going for them. After that, Hooda and Krunal combined for a 65-run stand to keep Lucknow in the match, but once this stand was broken, the chase fell flat on its face.
A clinical win for Rajasthan, and they go level on points with Lucknow. They showed just the correct energy on the field, picked wickets, built pressure and didn't let the intensity drop. It's a really good victory for them, and they are now number 2 on the table due to a superior NRR.
