Right then, that is it from this game which saw Sydney Sixers extend their winning run and that leaves Hobart Hurricanes' chances of making it to the next stage on a knife's edge. The action in the 12th edition of the Big Bash League continues on Tuesday 24th January as Melbourne Renegades lock horns against Adelaide Strikers at the Docklands Stadium in Melbourne. The game will begin at 1.45 pm IST (8.15 am GMT) but you can join us much sooner for the build-up. Until then, goodbye and cheers!
Steven Smith has been adjudged the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for scoring 66 runs in 33 balls with 6 maximums. He says that he wants to help the boys win the title. Mentions that the qualifier will be his last game and hopefully he can get them to the finals. Claims that they have been playing a lot of games at home where the wicket is slower but at Perth there will be more pace and bounce so it is different conditions and they are up for the challenge. Ends by saying that he is playing for a reason which is to enjoy the game and hopefully he can do well in his last game.
Earlier, Sydney Sixers got off to a rollicking start courtesy of Steven Smith who carried on with his outstanding form scoring 66 in 33 balls but his wicket put the brakes on the scoring rate before a late onslaught from Ben Dwarshuis and Moises Henriques took them to the 180-run mark. Patrick Dooley claimed three wickets with the four fast bowlers taking one wicket each but they had left their batters with a difficult task which they were unable to complete.
The visitors were on the money straight away as Jackson Bird and Sean Abbott opened the bowling and claimed a wicket each early. Jackson Bird claimed another one soon after and Hayden Kerr took over to claim two crucial wickets. Izharulhaq Naveed dismissed Zak Crawley and any hope the hosts had of winning the game, was extinguished. The pace bowlers continue to deal damage as Jackson Bird, Sean Abbott and Hayden Kerr claimed two wickets each and they will go into the business end of the tournament in great touch.
Hobart Hurricanes looked to go after the bowling from the word go but their openers Ben McDermott and Caleb Jewell were dismissed in the Powerplay itself. Matthew Wade and Zak Crawley looked to steady the ship but the former could not get going and was dismissed after getting off to a start. Tim David came to the wicket and decided to impose himself but he too perished in the quest to pick up the scoring rate. The wickets of D'Arcy Short and Zak Crawley who fell one short of his half-century, de-railed their effort. In the end, despite a short cameo from Nathan Ellis, they found themselves well short of the target.
This has been a comfortable win for Sydney Sixers and their outstanding run in the competition continues! They win by 24 runs and have managed to win the sixth consecutive game heading into the Qualifier. Hobart Hurricanes will need to pick themselves up for the last game as they are still in the competition and can make it to the playoffs. We thought that this would be an exciting run-chase but the hosts lost their way late in their inning.

OUT! RUN OUT! Hobart Hurricanes are giving away their wickets here! Hayden Kerr bowls a low full toss outside off. Nathan Ellis knocks this towards long on and looks for a couple of runs. Joel Paris is slow to respond for the second run and is struggling to make the crease. Sean Abbott throws the ball to the bowler and Hayden Kerr whips the bails off. They go upstairs to check and Joel Paris is short of his crease. Hobart Hurricanes lose their eighth wicket now and this chase has fizzled out.
