Right then, we have witnessed a close encounter and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots will indeed live to fight another day. Trinbago Knight Riders have one more opportunity to make it to the playoffs and will hope to grab that chance. The action in the Caribbean Premier League continues on Friday, the 23rd of September. It will be Guyana Amazon Warriors who take on Saint Lucia Kings for match number 27. That game will begin at 4.30 am IST (11 pm GMT, the previous day). But as you all know our build-up for the games will begin in advance. Do join us then. For now, it's goodbye and cheers!
Kieron Pollard the skipper of Trinbago Knight Riders says that the game went away from them in the last four overs of the first innings. Explains that bowling yorkers at the death and under pressure situations will prove to be a learning experience for them. Claims that he never felt the game was in their hands and they knew it would be tough. Adds that they need to take up challenges instead of going for the easy solutions. Mentions that he is disappointed that they conceded those runs at the end. He agrees to the fact that it is a must-win game for them but feels that is why they play cricket. Ends by saying that he wants he players to stand up and be counted.
Dwayne Bravo the captain of St Kitts and Nevis Patriots says that they are the best team regardless of where they are on the table and they always give out their 100%. Adds that they always wanted to bat first and he asked Sherfane Rutherford where he wanted to bat to which he replied 'anywhere' and then agreed to number 4 when he was told that it is not the answer. Ends by saying that Sheldon Cottrell is growing in strength, and credits Rashid Khan and Kevin Sinclair as well.
Sherfane Rutherford is the Player of the Match. He says that it worked well with the bat for them first. Adds that it took some time but it went well afterward. Says that Kieron Pollard's wicket was a massive one and they enjoyed the game. Ends by saying that it helps if they are calm in cricket and the crowd was amazing.
Time for the presentations...
The victory was set up for the hosts courtesy of Sherfane Rutherford who scored a wonderful half-century to dig his team out of trouble. A special mention has to be given to Dewald Brevis who scored 30 runs in 6 balls and considering the fact that they won by just 7 runs, those runs were absolutely crucial. The bowlers did a good job and even though they were put under pressure a few times, they held their nerves to clinch a crucial win.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots began really well as Sheldon Cottrell struck in the very first over and Kevin Sinclair came on to send Colin Munro back to the shed. After that, there were unable to take a wicket for a considerable amount of time but managed to build pressure. Rashid Khan was wonderful once again conceding just 12 runs in his 4 overs including a maiden but the pick of the bowlers was Sheldon Cottrell who took three big wickets including the all-important wicket of Andre Russell in the last over. Kevin Sinclair was outstanding as well picking up two wickets for 18 runs in his full quota of four overs. Dwayne Bravo was a shade too expensive but his two wickets were very crucial in context of the game. They will be absolutely thrilled with this effort.
Trinbago Knight Riders once again began poorly as their opening woes continued. They lost Leonardo Julien early and Colin Munro could not make much of an impact either as they found themselves in a spot of bother. The skipper Kieron Pollard promoted himself up the order and put on a 57-run partnership with Tim Seifert. He departed in an attempt to accelerate the scoring and Nicholas Pooran once again was dismissed when he was looking good at the wicket. All hopes of winning lay with Tim Seifert and Andre Russell hereafter but when the former departed on 59 it looked like a tough proposition. Andre Russell took the game deep playing a quick-fire cameo but was unable to take his team home.
What a game we have witnessed here! It has gone right to the wire and in the end, the reigning champions win by 7 runs to keep their hopes of making it to the playoffs alive. Trinbago Knight Riders looked well on course to achieve the target but fell short once again after the disappointment in the previous game. They will now have to win their final game if they are to make it to the next stage of the tournamenrt.
