Smriti Mandhana is chosen for the Hero of the Match award! She says that it appeared that the wicket was slightly on the slower side but it was a good one to bat on. Tells that she took her time initially and then played her shots. Praises the bowlers and says that this win is all about the bowlers and fielders and they are the real heroes of the match. Adds that the coach has been in touch with every player and she felt at home with the squad as they gelled really well. Mentions that in the last two games they have put on an all-round display and hopes to keep going and reach the final.
Two games and two losses for Welsh Fire Women and their season is off to a sorry start. In the first match, they fell at the wrong end of Jemimah Rodrigues and today it was Smriti Mandhana who proved to be a thorn in the flesh. The Indian star batters have cost the Fire a couple of games now. Mandhana did offer a chance when she was batting on 26 but Alex Griffiths didn't take it. At that moment in the chase, 60 odd runs were needed and on the next ball, Sophia Dunkley departed. There could be an opening for Welsh Fire Women but they were not up to the mark to take it.
A comprehensive victory for Southern Brave Women! They bowled well, fielded well and then batted well. The right team to win this evening without a shade of doubt. Chasing a below-par target, the Brave lost Danni Wyatt early but then the pair of Smriti Mandhana and Sophia Dunkley took charge and raised a quick stand to diminish the hopes of Welsh Fire Women. Dunkley did get out later on but Smriti kept on batting and put on an extraordinary display of quality stroke-making. Along with her was the experienced head of Stafanie Taylor, who kept the strike rotating and together they finished the match with 16 balls to spare. Truly dominating and outstanding.
