Man of the Match
Tom Latham
Commentry
That is it from this series then! Tom Latham is handed the trophy and he poses for the cameras along with his teammates. Now then, New Zealand have their next assignment against Australia. The three-match ODI series will start on 6th September at 9.50 am IST (4.20 am GMT) while West Indies have a month-long break before they tour to Australia. So, there is plenty of cricketing action across the globe to keep you busy. Keep checking the schedule page. From here, it is goodbye and cheers!
Tom Latham, the skipper of New Zealand is also the Man of the Match (69 runs off 75 balls). He says that it was nice and it feels good to make a contribution. Further says that the game was built up on partnership and everyone performed well. Adds that Windies were really good as they were 170 for none and reached the 300 run mark. Mentions that their plan was to play in the Powerplay as the boundary was small and the boys played really well. Finally says that it feels nice to perform and win the series.
Nicholas Pooran, the skipper of West Indies says it's a tough one to digest as at the halfway stage they were in the game. Adds the bowlers did really well, could have taken a couple of wickets in the Powerplay. It was hard to bowl on the wet surface. Shares that as a batter, they had a chat and it was a plan to play Southee and Boult carefully. Says he is happy that Kevin Sinclair and Yannic Cariah are getting opportunities. Applauds Kyle Mayers performance. Tells that the players showed a fight and he is happy with the performance. He just tells the players to trust their ability.
Mitchell Santner wins the Player of the Series award. He says that it feels nice and this was a great game. Says that bowling first was good for us as they restricted them in Powerplay but they caught up in the end. Finishes by saying that it was a good wicket and their players did really well.
...Presentation coming up...
Earlier, the top three of the Windies showed their presence as Hope scored a fifty while Mayers scored a wonderful ton and Pooran's quick 91 runs in 55 balls helped West Indies get past the 300 mark. In reply, New Zealand chased down the target pretty comfortably. West Indies bowlers will be disappointed to not take this game till the deep.
West Indies had an ample amount of runs to bowl at but as we saw at the end of the Windies' batting, the pitch tend to ease out for the batters. New Zealand won the toss and made the perfect decision to bowl as things panned out perfectly. West Indies could have been more consistent but were a bit wayward with the deliveries. Nicholas Pooran will feel they had a very good chance to seal the series but have given away the opportunity.
New Zealand win their first-ever ODI series on the Caribbean soil. Recently they did in the T20I series and now they make yet another history, It was a commanding performance from them! The Kiwis were chasing a big score but there was not any sign of pressure on their face. It was a very measured chase from New Zealand. They kept the scoreboard near the required run rate and throughout the chase, there wasn't much sweat dropped. From the top five, four batters scored fifty. Once Latham and Daryl Mitchell got out, there was a slight hope for the Windies but James Neesham played a quick cameo to take his team over the line.
